Motion by the coordination of the International Liaison Committee
of Workers and Peoples (ILC) – Adopted in Paris, September 9, 2017

Concerning the international encounter of September 16 and 17 in Caracas for peace, sovereignty and democracy in Venezuela

The coordination of the ILC, which met in Paris September 9-10, was informed about the call for an international encounter in support of Peace, sovereignty and democracy in Venezuela” due to be held in Caracas next September 16 and 17, at a time when the country is the target of attacks by the national and international right-wing nourished by the government of the United States.

The ILC, which is preparing the 9^th Open World Conference against war and exploitation, to be held in Algiers (Algeria) December 8, 9 and 10, has already several times expressed its solidarity with the Venezuelan workers and people against the economic sanctions underway and against the threats of military intervention by North American imperialism, and in particular those of the Trump government, which is counting upon the complicity of lackey governments in the region. The ILC has also again expressed its support for the unconditional defense of the right of the sovereign nation of Venezuela to decide its own destiny, without any kind of external interference.

In the course of our coordination meeting, it was decided to mandate a delegation to the encounter being organized in Caracas for September 16 and 17, on the basis that the defense of Venezuela against interference by imperialism is one of the subjects of our conference in Algiers in December.

Faithful to the principles on which the foundation of the International Liaison Committee of workers and peoples was based – defense of the interests of the working class, of peoples and of the sovereignty of nations – we hereby reaffirm our commitment in solidarity with the struggle of the workers and people of Venezuela.
